NaNoWriMo




NaNoWriMo is upon us and it's time for all you writers to lock yourselves in your respective writing dungeons, shun the world, family, friends and forego television, movies and proper sustenance.

Are you ready? I am. Sort of.

I have an idea but no clue how I'm going to write it. Still not even sure if it's going to be in first person or third or a mix of the two. I know the characters and basic gist of where I want the story to go but the little details elude me.

Typically, I'm a slow starter and require a big push at the end to reach the 50k word target. This will be my third year and so far I have two victories under my belt. What is a victory? With NaNoWriMo its really straightforward: just write. You are aiming for 50,000 words, or more, but 50k will win you a nice certificate. You don't worry about spellcheck, editing or spending too much time on any given moment. You write...and write. And at the end of it all you'll have 50,000 words towards your next best seller. Perhaps.

Another benefit of NaNoWriMo is that it puts you in touch with other writers. There are events all over the place where NaNoWriMos can meet up and have writing sessions. Or you can hook up online with some writing buddies and track their progress, mocking when you overtake them and knuckling down when they blow by you after a productive weekend. If you're a writer and you're in a rut, this is the perfect way to find your mojo again.

Questions for Spartagus.

I'm trying to be a writer (you may have heard mention of this fact a couple thousand times already...lets just pretend this is the first time) and writers need an audience and an ability to connect with them. So, I'm gonna try something different in the blog this time. I struggle to talk about myself in any meaningful way to strangers. I don't know you and you don't know me so, for the most part we are strangers. I show up on Twitter and tweet some mundane fact about myself: "I like cheese!" or, find myself chiming in about movies, cracking wise or ruminating about the size of the universe.The bulk of what I "talk" about is in short, sharp blasts on Twitter and that's lead me to wonder how much of a connection I'm making to the people I interact with through the myriad of social forums. #movies - Review - King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

#KingArthurLegendOfTheSword was NOT as bad as I'd heard it was. It wasn't WOOHOO...*runs around doing the helicopter t-shirt thing*...but it also wasn't *cries into cornflakes* This is one of those movies you start one Saturday afternoon, take a well deserved nap, and don't feel in the least bit upset at missing any of it. You'll catch the bits you missed the next time you need a Saturday afternoon nap. The downsides Guy Richie's choppy writing/directing ticks can be annoying in places. He borrows from himself, having Arthur carry out both sides of a conversation to show how far ahead he can think, much like Sherlock planning out his Holmes-Fu in a pair of better Richie movies.
